Brand/Model Summary
The Lexus GX470 is one of the most underrated off-road platforms to come out of the early 2000s. Built on the same 90-series Land Cruiser Prado chassis as the Toyota 4Runner, the GX470 brought genuine body-on-frame ruggedness wrapped in Lexus refinement. Toyota's 4.7-liter 2UZ-FE V8 — a cast-iron block unit with a reputation for going well past 300,000 miles with basic maintenance — powers every GX470, making high mileage on these trucks far less alarming than it would be on most other vehicles. The GX470's factory off-road spec is serious: multi-mode 4WD with a locking center differential, height-adjustable KDSS suspension (Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System) on equipped models, and a crawl-ready low-range transfer case. These trucks have a cult following in overland and off-road communities precisely because the mechanicals are so bulletproof and the aftermarket support is deep.
Vehicle Summary
This 2005 GX470 came to us as a high-mileage but fundamentally sound truck — exactly the profile we look for in an off-road build platform. At 267k miles on a 2UZ-FE V8, the engine is barely halfway through its usable life when properly maintained, and that's the philosophy guiding this entire build. Major mechanical maintenance was completed with the previous and current ownership (steering rack, timing, oil pans, drive shaft, differential, and more). The goal is a truck that is genuinely capable and genuinely reliable — not a lifted garage queen that falls apart on the trail. The build direction is a capable, daily-usable overland rig: suspension lift, all-terrain tires, underbody protection, and recovery gear, built on a freshly sorted mechanical foundation. This is a truck for people who actually use them.
Ownership History
Acquired by RISO Motorworks as a build project in 2026. The vehicle presents as a well-used but honest high-mileage example. Documentation and service records will be noted and updated as they become available through the build process.
